From sea to shining sea

We made it to the west coast. After another long days drive we arrived at our campground at Laguna Beach. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the park ranger asked to see our disability pass. It turns out, Tim had booked a disability accessible campsite by accident. They legally could not put us in the accessible site, they had no other sites available, we would lose the $150 we had spent on the site for two nights (one of our more extravagant parks), there are NO other campgrounds within 50 miles and Tim’s friend Simon was on the way to Laguna from Hollywood to spend the night with us. Tim honestly pleaded ignorance and the wonderful ranger Bijon escalated the situation until he got the ok from the head honcho for us to use the site we had booked. Thanks Bijon!

The site was beautiful, overlooking the Pacific. It was ‘June Gloom’, a period of time when the sky is overcast and temperatures are cool in the LA area but we were glad of the change from scorching heat.

After spending a lot of time with Karen’s friends and family along the way, Tim was eager to see one of his old friends and celebrate his upcoming birthday.  Simon arrived in his sleek, black Porsche and after a cocktail we went out for dinner at a local sushi place. It was a wonderful meal. Not only had we not had fish in weeks but the sushi was great, we had stellar company in Simon and G slept the whole time. Brilliant.

Tim and Simon spent most of the night catching up and having fun on the beach after dinner.

And Simon said he hadn’t slept that well in a long time.  The next day we spent with Mellissa Roller (Karen’s friend from Atlanta) and her family at their amazing house overlooking the beach at Laguna.  It was great to see what their life was like….  Living the dream.
