Monumental

Finally relaxed after our longest and hottest drive yet, 6 hours from Santa Fe to Monument Valley.

We have our longest drive behind us now and we arrived at the most beautiful campground we’ve been to so far.

Surrounded by high, softly sculptured sandstone walls, it is peacefully epic.

We are now in the Navajo Nation and our cell phones don’t work any more. We go for a swim in the pool to cool our hot travelling feet (it’s still in the 90s), and we take G on her first hike on a little trail around the campsite. She loves climbing and hiding in the smooth, cool caves carved out by the wind and rain.

The next morning we took War out on a 17-mile self drive tour of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. We were bounced and bumped along the rough track but the truck performed faithfully on the roughest stretch of road we intend to go on.

Pictures and words don’t do it justice but here are a few.
